Split

A trip to Split, the pearl of Croatia’s Adriatic coast, can be an unforgettable experience that combines rich history, beautiful nature and lively contemporary culture. Split is the second largest city in Croatia and hosts numerous attractions that will satisfy the various interests of visitors. This is another idea for you while you are staying at the Beach hotel Plaža, Drašnice Makarska.

Upon arrival in Split, the first thing you will notice is the famous Diocletian’s Palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This imposing Roman palace from the 4th century has been transformed into the central part of the city and hosts numerous restaurants, shops and museums. Walking through it, you will feel as if you have stepped into the past, while observing the well-preserved ancient walls, statues and spacious squares.

After visiting Diocletian’s Palace, you can walk to Riva, a promenade by the sea where you will enjoy wonderful views of the Adriatic. Here you will find many cafes and restaurants where you can taste delicious Dalmatian specialties, such as fresh fish and lamb.

For history lovers, a visit to Split museums such as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of the City of Split will be a real treat. These museums preserve numerous artifacts and stories about the rich past of the city and region.

But Split is not only about history; it is also known for its beautiful beaches. Bačvice Beach is a popular beach located near the city center and is ideal for relaxing and swimming. You can engage in various water sports or simply lie in the sun.

In the evening, Split comes alive, especially during the summer. Many restaurants and bars offer live music and local artists. Take a walk along the Split waterfront and enjoy a walk by the sea while the sun sets.

When it comes to food, you should not miss the opportunity to try Dalmatian specialties such as “pašticada” and “peka”. Dalmatian cuisine is known for its fresh ingredients, olive oil and spices that will win you over with their rich flavors.

Of course, Split offers many more interesting activities and places to explore. Here are some additional suggestions:

Marjan Hill: If you love nature, don’t miss a visit to Marjan, a green hill that rises above Split. This area is ideal for walking, cycling and hiking. From the top of the hill there are beautiful panoramic views of the city, islands and sea.

Peristyle and Diocletian’s Cathedral: In addition to Diocletian’s palace itself, Peristyle is an attractive square in front of the imperial castle, where cultural events are often held. Diocletian’s Cathedral, which is also located inside the palace, is one of the most important Christian shrines in Croatia.

Krka National Park: If you want to explore untouched nature, Krka National Park is a few hours’ drive from Split. Here you will find beautiful waterfalls, promenades and the possibility of swimming in lakes.

Split beaches: In addition to Bačvica beach, you can also explore other beaches such as Žnjan, Firule, Ovčica and many others. Each of them offers different activities and atmosphere.

Culture and art: Split has a rich cultural scene with many theaters, galleries and music events. HNK Split (Croatian National Theatre) and Art Gallery are just some of the cultural centers worth visiting.

Split is a city with many dimensions, from historical wonders to natural beauty and lively contemporary culture. Regardless of whether you are a lover of history, nature, food or simply want a relaxing vacation by the sea, Split will provide you with a diverse experience that you will remember forever.
