Amfora Cave, deepest cave of Biokovo mountain
Amfora Cave is one of the deepest and most dramatic natural formations in Croatia. Located high on the southeastern slopes of Biokovo Mountain, just below the peak of Saint Jure, the cave descends to a known depth of 788 meters.
Discovered in 1998 by members of the local caving club SAK Ekstrem from Makarska, the cave has been the subject of several major expeditions. By 2002, it had been fully explored to its current depth, making it one of the deepest caves in Southeast Europe.
